Which examination is which?
| Exam | Purpose | Study focus |
|---|---|---|
| NSEP | First stage of India’s Physics Olympiad pathway | Physics and supporting mathematics through Class XII. |
| NSEJS | First stage of the Junior Science Olympiad pathway | Science and mathematics through Class X; separate eligibility rules. |
| INPhO | National Physics Olympiad stage after selection | Deeper Physics problems; see official model solutions. |
| JEE Main | Entrance examination, including B.E./B.Tech. admission routes | Use NTA’s own current syllabus and bulletin; it is not the Physics Olympiad selection route. |
Can I appear for both NSEP and NSEJS in 2026?
No. Current rules do not permit participation in NSEJS and the senior NSE subjects in the same cycle. Class X appearing in descriptions of both exams does not override this restriction. Check the complete 2026 eligibility rules.
Is NSEP harder than JEE?
There is no useful universal ranking for every student or every paper. Shared physics concepts can help with both, but question style, time pressure, coverage and purpose differ. Compare actual official papers and identify the reasoning you find difficult.
A strong entrance-exam routine is a useful foundation, but add NSEP-specific paper practice. NSEP does not replace an entrance examination or its registration process.
How should I choose my next step?
- New to the programme: start with the student guide.
- Checking which exam you can enter: read the official eligibility rules for the intended cycle.
- Preparing for Physics: use the syllabus and official papers.
- Qualified through NSEP: follow the separate INPhO registration.
