New to NSEP? A Guide for Classes 10, 11 & 12

A clear starting point for Class X, XI and XII students, from understanding NSEP to choosing your first practice paper.

2026–27 cycleChecked 20 October 2026

First, understand the journey

NSEP is a national Physics examination conducted by IAPT. Successful candidates can progress to INPhO, a selection camp and, eventually, the Indian team for the International Physics Olympiad.

You can also use it as a reason to develop stronger physics, even if this is your first Olympiad season.

Your first five steps

  1. Check all eligibility conditions, not only your class.
  2. Read the dates and registration status for the correct cycle.
  3. Use the syllabus tracker to identify topics you already know.
  4. Try a few foundation and bridge questions before a full paper.
  5. Attempt an official NSEP paper, then review the final answer key.
Starting after registration closed? You can still use the free resources to learn. A preparation plan does not create an exam registration. This site has no late-enrolment facility.
