All seven conditions matter.

  1. Be eligible for an Indian passport, subject to the separate OCI provisions below.
  2. Be born from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2012, including both dates.
  3. Have lived and studied in India from 30 November 2024 or earlier, or studied in an Indian school system from that date.
  4. Be in Class X, XI or XII at enrolment.
  5. Must not have passed, or be scheduled to complete, the Class XII board examination before 30 November 2026.
  6. Do not start university or equivalent studies by 1 June 2027.
  7. Do not appear for NSEJS 2026.

OCI students

The current HBCSE rules provisionally allow otherwise eligible OCI students through the OCSC stage, including its selection tests. They are not eligible for selection to the Indian international team under the published policy. This provision may change following official orders.

A common source of confusion

Being in Class X does not automatically make you eligible; the birth-date and other conditions also apply. Likewise, meeting the age window does not make a Class IX student eligible under the current Class X–XII requirement.
