Result, key and shortlist: what to look for
| Publication | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Question paper and answer key | Use the exact year and paper code. A tentative key may be corrected. |
| Scorecard / report card | Your officially reported examination marks. |
| MAS and MI | Group-specific thresholds used in selection. |
| INO / INPhO shortlist | Whether you are invited to the next stage, subject to the official rules. |
How to check your result
- Read the latest IAPT announcement for the current cycle.
- Follow its official result or student-login link.
- Check your examination, enrolment details and scorecard.
- Read the shortlist and next-stage registration instructions separately.
A login page being available does not mean results have been released.
How to estimate a score after the exam
Use the final answer key matching your paper code. Under the current brochure scheme, Part A earns +3 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong answer; an unanswered question earns 0. Part B earns +6 only when all correct options and no incorrect options are selected, otherwise 0.
Follow the actual paper and any later official correction. The portal FAQ currently conflicts with the brochures on Part A; see the evidence. A self-calculated score is not a result or a qualification decision.
What happens after qualifying?
HBCSE lists publication of the INO shortlist by 15 January 2027. Shortlisted candidates must complete separate HBCSE registration. INPhO is scheduled for 31 January 2027, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon.
Read MAS, MI and selection rules, then use the official HBCSE notice. For practice before the exam, use verified previous papers.
